Today's hairsprays, a far cry from the shellacs of the past, are not only lighter weight and more natural looking, but are also extremely versatile.

Not only does hair spray help your style remain intact all day, it's also great for addressing common hair challenges. Flyaways and broken hairs around the part are easy to vanquish by spraying hairspray on your hands and smoothing. Spraying your hair from underneath builds body, and spraying on the surface and smoothing with a brush results in a sleek, polished look.

One of the most important techniques in making it look as though you aren’t wearing hair spray is to tilt your head first to one side and then the other as you apply it to ensure that the product lands on the top, bottom, and middle layers rather than being concentrated in just one or two particular areas. Then, it’s all about the look you’re after.

All Nexxus hairsprays dry quickly to build body while preventing stiff, sticky hair. To add lift and texture hold a product like COMB THRU Natural Hold Design and Finishing Mist about six inches away from your head and spray all over dry hair with quick strokes.

To increase volume, lift up sections of hair then spray lightly from underneath, concentrating on the roots. For even more intense volume and fullness, flip your head upside down and spray the underside of the head both when blow drying and when finishing a style.
For smooth styles, use your fingertips to comb the spray from roots to ends to prevent any build-up.
For wavy and curly looks, lightly scrunch the spray into your hair using an upward movement.
If your hair is particularly fine, spray two-inch sections of hair from roots to ends, and wrap each around a self-grip or hot roller. Remove when cool and then gently comb through your curls for a natural look that lasts.
To help hair stay straight while flat ironing, lightly spray each section first and then follow with the flat iron.
To ensure that curls retain shape after velcro roller use, be sure to spray the base of each curl before rolling and the entire curl set once finished.
